The Border between England and Scotland. A place of battles and castles, plunder and raiding. A border for 2000 years - but it wasn't always so.

A wall was built here by a guy called Hadrian. It marked the northern extent of the Roman Empire. The area to the north was occupied by Celtic warriors, who fought and resisted the Romans. The Selgovae, the Brigantes, the Novante, the Dummoni.

There are people who believe that Arther and Merlin came from this place. The evidence is all around for those who care to look.

Towns are small, few and far between. Hills and forests are everywhere. It is often bypassed by people heading for the Scotish highlands, and not reached by people who get no farther than the Lakes.
